WISCONSIN CHALLENGE ACADEMY

Do you know an at-risk youth that might not complete high school? Consider the Wisconsin Challenge Academy, a program through the Wisconsin National Guard where cadets can earn their diploma, develop character and improve their outlook on life.

An orientation session is being held Wednesday, May 14 from 1-8pm at the Milwaukee National Guard Armory, 4108 N. Richards Street. For eligibility information and more details on the orientation call 866-968-8422 or visit ChallengeAcademy.org.


NAMI WALK FOR MENTAL ILLNESS

The National Alliance on Mental Illness will hold their annual walk Saturday, May 17 at Veteran’s Park. The honorary chairman for the event is Green Bay Packer Greg Jennings. The walk raises money to support awareness efforts and support services at no cost for those impacted by mental illness. EXPERIENCE WORKS PRIME TIME AWARDS

Do you know an outstanding worker that is 65 or older? Nominate them for the Experience Works Prime Time Award. Nominees must be Wisconsin residents and currently working a paid job of at least 20 hours per week.

Experience Works raises awareness of the contributions made by older individuals and breaks down barriers of hiring older workers. The deadline to nominate is Saturday, May 31. Call 800-782-7519 or visit experienceworks.org for more details and a nomination form.


WALK TOWARDS WELLNESS

The 100 Black Men of Milwaukee and the Peace of Change Alliance invite all to the “Walk Toward Wellness” on Saturday, May 17. The goal of the event is to kick off a walk towards a better Milwaukee. MINUTES FOR OUR TROOPS

The Wisconsin American Legion is in need of funds to purchase more calling minutes for Wisconsin troops stationed in Iraq. Last September several units were provided with satellite phones so they could call home. The phones need to be recharged with additional minutes.

WISCONSIN STATE FAIR DAY CAMP

Incoming fourth-seventh graders are eligible to participate in the Wisconsin State Fair Day Camp. Activities will include: farm animal care demonstrations, House of Moo activities, t-shirt printing, a ride down the giant slide and other hands-on experiences.

The fee is $10 per camper. Registration forms, health forms and fees are due by June 1, 2008. For complete details visit wistatefair.com


FIELD TRIP TO BODY WORLDS 1

Jammin’ 98.3 would like to thank Gunther von Hagens’ Body Worlds One: The Original Exhibition of Real Human Bodies and the Milwaukee Public Museum for sponsoring our recent Field Trip Contest.

Thanks to their efforts Mary Fowlkes a teacher from University High School and 40 of her students where able to attend this ground breaking exhibit. Ms Fowlkes is part of Riverside’s comprehensive student driven health program and according to her “this exhibit truly helped us emphasize the importance of developing healthy lifestyles”.

We encourage you to visit Body Worlds One as well, now on exhibit for a limited time at the Milwaukee Public Museum.
